A pragmatic decision\u2014already implemented elsewhere in Europe\u2014aimed at easing a system under strain\u2026 without driving up organizers\u2019 costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More starters to relieve the system<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The cap is gone.<br>From now on, international show jumping classes in Switzerland can host up to 100 starters, compared to 70 previously, while maintaining a single ranking (with 30% of riders placed).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This change took immediate effect following an urgent request from the Show Jumping Technical Committee to Swiss Equestrian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal: respond to a simple reality, too many riders, not enough spots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Unprecedented pressure at the start of the season<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The numbers speak for themselves.<br>Over the first three and a half months of 2026, the number of starts matches that of 2025\u2026 despite four fewer major shows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The result:<br>entries fill up within minutes of opening, lists close almost instantly, and some riders are left without a place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This trend is partly due to a thin early-season calendar<br>But also to a shift in behavior: riders now register immediately, fearing they\u2019ll miss out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cA solution so more people can ride\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the ground, organizers support the move.<br>Julien Pradervand, organizer of the Concours de Cr\u00eate, sees it as a practical response to an increasingly unmanageable situation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the solution that was found to allow more people to take part. Today, many riders want to enter the same shows, especially at the start of the season when there are fewer dates available.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Behind this adjustment lies a broader shift toward entry systems already used across Europe:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve moved to a system like in other European countries, with limits on the number of starts and open registration. It\u2019s organizers choosing to stop there to avoid extra costs and keep the days manageable.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shared responsibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the issue isn\u2019t just structural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the ground, certain behaviors worsen the situation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cRiders also share responsibility. We\u2019ve seen full classes where, on the day, 14 or 15 riders don\u2019t actually start.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>A waste of spots\u2014in an already saturated system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Switzerland aligns with Europe\u2026 and the FEI<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This change brings Switzerland closer to international standards.<br>On the side of the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration \u00c9questre Internationale (FEI), there is no strict universal limit imposing a 70-starter cap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In most European countries\u2014Belgium, Germany, France, the Netherlands\u2014entry systems already operate with: more flexible quotas, open registration, larger fields<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cMost European countries already work like this,\u201d confirms Pradervand.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Switzerland is therefore changing its approach.<br>And as often, transitions take time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A fragile transition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because this new system challenges long-standing habits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve always operated the same way in Switzerland. Now it\u2019s a different approach. We hope it works.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The conclusion is clear: the old system had reached its limits.
