Belgian endurance champion in 2026, twenty-nine years after his first title, the Belgian rider delivers a comeback as improbable as it is symbolic. A victory built over 160 kilometers, a mare close to his heart\u2026 and a battered path that has finally found its direction again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A deceptive championship, a very real victory<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday, May 1st, in Limburg, the setting had all the makings of a perfect playground: gentle sunshine, fast tracks, and a relaxed atmosphere. In Zutendaal, just behind the facilities of Zangersheide, the Belgian endurance championship was contested over the premier event: 160 kilometers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fourteen riders at the start, five nations represented, but on the Belgian side, the field quickly thinned out. Very thinned out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab The only Belgian who finishes is me<\/em> \u201d sums up the founder of \u00c9curie des Aliz\u00e9s, without beating around the bush.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fourth in the international race, but the only national finisher, he logically claims the title. A victory with a particular, almost raw taste: no final duel, just a race of attrition where survival was the key.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gibson Al Ondrel, the mare of bonds and legacy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the heart of this success is a mare with a deeply emotional pedigree: Gibson Al Ondrel, 10 years old. Gibson Al Ondrel<\/strong>, 10 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born in the family breeding program founded by his late brother, she represents far more than just a sporting partner. A story of transmission, almost continuity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab She was originally Karin\u2019s horse<\/em> ,\u201d Arnould explains, referring to his partner Karine Boulanger, already a five-time Belgian champion. She had in fact won the title with this same mare two years ago<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A reliable, experienced horse, capable of handling the distance. In short, the logical choice for aiming high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AlUla, the defining failure<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A few months earlier, the destination was AlUla. Arnould was invited to compete there, future host of the World Championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Problem: no horse after losing Jadara\u2019h to colic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Solution: Gibson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Result: elimination 20 km from the finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But behind the failure came a realization: the mare was at the level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab We were very happy with what she showed.<\/em> \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enough to restart the momentum, and set sights on Zutendaal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A victory that opens doors\u2026 with no guarantees<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this performance over 160 km, Arnould checks a crucial box: eligibility for the World Championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But eligible doesn\u2019t mean selected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab I\u2019m not in the selector\u2019s inner circle.<\/em> \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Same situation for Karine, who has two qualified horses. The couple could find themselves together, or crossing paths. Nothing has been decided yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back to the top, 25 years later<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What stands out most is not the title. It\u2019s the timing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arnould had stepped away from top-level sport in 2001. Returning to competition at the end of 2022, he has been stacking results ever since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And above all, he has come a long way back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entangled in proceedings with the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration \u00c9questre Internationale, he had to defend his integrity before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verdict: 100% cleared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A year of battle. A reputation to rebuild.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So inevitably, this title tastes different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab It tastes better than the one I won 29 years ago. <\/em>\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Belgian endurance dynasty<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Behind the individual victory lies a family story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
