Falsterbo, the place where the clock becomes an obsession<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Some shows breathe history. Falsterbo is one of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A vast grass arena, packed old-style stands, a sun almost showing off and fifty of the best combinations on the planet at the start of the fourth Rolex Series event of the season. No need for gimmicks when the cast already puts on the show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Frank Rothenberger had, as so often, prepared a course that forgave nothing: fourteen fences, seventeen efforts and enough questions to remind everyone that a Rolex Grand Prix is never won by chance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The verdict came quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Martin Fuchs came out with four faults. So did Kent Farrington. Pieter Devos conceded twelve. The favourites quickly understood that the slightest detail would cost them dearly. Very dearly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n At the end of this first round, only fourteen still had a zero on the scoreboard and earned themselves a ticket to the final showdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Among them, Steve Guerdat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Swiss rider had not come to Sweden for sightseeing. Winner of the Nations Cup with his team a few days earlier, he had announced before the Grand Prix that his objective was \u201csimple: to win.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n With Albfuehren\u2019s Iashin Sitte, he did exactly what was needed. Clear, clean, fluent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the second round, he raised the tone again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 38.68<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n For a few seconds, it looked like the winning time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Then Richard Vogel entered the stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n The German did not take many more risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Just enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n With Cloudio, the world number two also delivered a perfect second round and stopped the clock in 38.63 seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Five hundredths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At that level, it is not even a stride anymore. It is a breath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Steve Guerdat dropped one place. Vogel temporarily took the leader\u2019s chair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But there was still one man left to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And that is never a very comfortable situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Shane Sweetnam knew exactly what the mission was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He knew he had to beat 38.63 seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He also knew he could not afford the slightest hesitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n With James Kann Cruz (Kannan x Cruising), the Irishman attacked immediately. No observation round. No visible calculation. The pair produced a perfectly controlled jump-off, fast without ever giving the impression of losing control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When the clock stopped at 37.68 seconds, the suspense disappeared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Rolex Grand Prix of Falsterbo had found its winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Two clear rounds. The fastest time of the second round.
