He crossed the French spring season like a meteorite tearing down the motorway. Arriving under Julien Épaillard’s saddle at the end of January, Hard'Rock Queen HJD had just enough time to win a 3* Grand Prix in Oliva, stack up clear rounds and, above all, deliver the Norman rider another French national title in Fontainebleau. Four months later, curtain call. The 9-year-old Selle Français gelding is already off toward a new sporting life. And no, not toward some financially overpowered Texan heir: the horse is joining Rodrigo Pessoa.
A short story, but a loud one
In modern show jumping, some partnerships take time to mature. Others look more like a perfectly executed heist. The collaboration between Julien Épaillard and Hard'Rock Queen HJD clearly belongs in the second category.
The Frenchman took over the son of Lauterbach and Coolcorran Cool Diamond at the end of January (previously ridden by Mathieu Bourdon). Barely enough time to figure out the buttons before the pair already started tearing apart the clock. In just a matter of weeks: sixteen international classes, a victory in the Oliva 3* Grand Prix and a national title in Fontainebleau. Maximum efficiency.
And in Fontainebleau especially, Hard'Rock Queen HJD looked every inch the perfect championship horse: fast, careful, always in the rider’s hand. The kind of mount that turns a course into a demonstration of pure fluidity.

The French champion now heading to Brazil’s camp
In the international sport horse market, good stories often come with a very short expiration date. This one is no exception.
Only a few weeks after the national title, Hard'Rock Queen HJD has already changed ownership. An ultra-fast exit that mainly confirms one thing: the market never sleeps, even while the championship celebrations are still echoing through the stables.
But this time, the horse is not leaving to teach a billionaire teenager how to ride a triple combination. The destination is Rodrigo Pessoa.
Et là, le décor change immédiatement.
Rodrigo Pessoa, collector of superstars
Because we are talking about a rider whose résumé reads like a show jumping encyclopedia: Olympic champion, world champion, three-time World Cup winner, multiple medallist and one of the defining figures of the sport for more than three decades.
At 9 years old, Hard'Rock Queen HJD is joining a stable where experience at the very highest level is certainly not lacking. The Brazilian continues strengthening a string already built around the sport’s biggest international targets.

A sale that also tells the story of modern show jumping
The pattern has almost become routine: a horse explodes onto the sport scene, instantly gains massive value and changes camps before the public even has time to get attached.
Except here, the timing gives the story a particular flavour. Hard'Rock Queen HJD barely had time to establish himself in the French landscape after his Fontainebleau title. As if that gold medal was both an achievement… and the ultimate sales showcase.
Julien Épaillard, meanwhile, knows the rules of the game perfectly well. For years, the French rider has navigated a market where top horses sometimes disappear faster than a jump-off ridden at 400 metres per minute.
